  • Fort Myers City Golf Course Renovation

    A public meeting will be conducted by the City of Fort Myers in order to discuss the proposed renovation of the 130-acre golf course of the city. The schedule of the public meeting is set on Thursday from 4:30 pm to 6 pm. Location will be at the New Hope Presbyterian Church located off 382 McGregor Boulevard.

    Various important details of the renovation will be discussed like the construction of a new storm water detention and retention basin. The renovation project will definitely include repairs to the fairways, sand traps, roughs, greens, pathways, and tees of the golf course. Improvements will also be made to the utility services, drainage, and the irrigation systems within the golf course.

    Golf architect Steve Smyers will lead the golf course renovation project together with Patrick Andrews, his chief design associate. According to Smyers, some features of the old golf course will definitely be altered, but he also said that the challenge that the course provides and its character will still be the same just like how Donald Ross had originally laid out when the course opened in 1917.The team will still be using the golf course plan laid out by Ross in 1916 to retain the course’s historic integrity.

    Construction cost is estimated to be about $5.8 million. Reopening schedule of the newly-renovated golf course is set on November 1. Residents in Fort Myers are anxiously awaiting this, as they feel it will increase the value of their Fort Myers real estate (fortmyersrealestate.com)
